Personal Development
“We Forfeit three fourths of ourselves to be like other people” ~ Arthur Schopenhauer
Imagine you are an artist with a blank canvas in front of you. How would that canvas look if you had the skill to paint the life you desired on it? Many people go through life not truly knowing who they are or hid their true self. If I was to hand you a Questionnaire on You – how well do you think you’d answer it? If your partner, family, friends and colleagues where to fill it in (their perception of you) what do you think it would show? What do you truly know about you?
Begin by asking yourself a few questions:
-
What are your hopes, dreams and passions?
-
How are you going to get your hopes, dreams and passions?
-
What are you values?
-
Do you live your life in accordance with your values?
-
What are your beliefs?
-
Are your beliefs holding you back or freeing the way for your growth?
-
What do you want from life – career, family, friends, health, finances and environment?
-
What is stopping you at this moment from taking that leap?
-
What is going on inside your mind – internal dialogue?
-
What do you want more of in your life?
Personal Development Coaching Sessions are focused on your growth as individual. One of the first steps to leading a whole and fulfilling life is to find out who you are at your core. Some people are born with this self awareness but most of us must search to find it. Often we spend so much time looking at the external world we don’t take time to look internally. We spend most of our time on auto pilot, doing what we’ve always done; there we are not fully present and aware.
If you are running out of energy or steam, feel the world is battling against you, that you’ve exhausted all possibilities, feel lost or stuck in rut, you’re sick of same old routines, feel like time slipping away, putting things on long fingers, hear yourself saying ‘when I have time/money, I will have/do (fill in the blank)’ then take an opportunity to step outside of yourself to get a better picture of what is going on inside you, what feelings and thoughts kept cropping up that don’t serve you in achieve the life you want.
What is missing from you? What would you change if there were no constraints? Who would you be if you could start again? How would you like to spend your time? What makes you unique? If you were to receive an award, what would you want that award to be for?

“Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is Enlightenment.”~ Tao Tzu
If you don’t know who you are, how can you expect others to know and how can you achieve your heart’s desire? Getting to know yourself is about becoming more self-aware. It’s about taking the time out for you, your growth, your development, your future. Above all it’s about nurturing your relationship with yourself. Getting to know the true you is a journey of self exploration and discovery. So often, we act according to how we think we ‘should’ or to conform to friend, family, colleagues etc. We hide our opinions and adopt those of others in case we are ‘wrong’ or don’t want to look stupid.
You live in your body and mind 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 52 weeks a year. No one’s closer to you than you! We hold all the answers to our own questions within but sometimes with all the activities going on outside – in society, with friends, family, work etc we forget to really to listen to our body, our mind or our gut. In getting to know yourself, you can become clearer on who you are, what you want, increase your confidence and self esteem, understand your beliefs and values, adopt empowering behaviours, open your mind to new ways of thinking and gain control over your journey in life.
My Mum says ‘Life is a one way ticket, there are no returns’. How true this statement is. It can be scary to make changes in yourself and your life but this fear is far more outweighed by the excitement, happiness, growth and progress that you can achieve by each step you take in your new direction.
