What Is Life Coaching?

‘You and I are essentially infinite choice-makers. In every moment of our existence, we are in that field of all possibilities where we have access to an infinity of choices.’ – Deepak Chopra

Life Coaching is a facilitative process which empowers the individual to take charge of and make positive changes in their life.  Life Coaching is also a powerful resource which is designed to implement change leading to a real fulfilment in life.  You have all the resources that you need to solve your own problems; a life coach is there to help you remove the obstacles that prevent this from happening.

What are Benefits of Life Coaching?

What is the difference between Life Coaching & Counselling?

As a life coach my job is to:

  • Ask probing questions in order to guide you to define what you want from life, your purpose and vision;
  • Find out where you are and where you want to be;
  • Observe and listen whilst drawing out from you solutions and strategies;
  • Re-focus your energy from what you don’t want to what you do want;
  • Facilitate you in setting more effective goals;
  • Achieve results – close the gap between thinking about doing and actually doing;
  • Provide support at a time of change, challenge or transition; and
  • Use NLP to get you to imagine just how good it is to feel happier now as you throw away any limiting beliefs and past pattern

You have the solutions - only you know what is right for you.

As a client your role is to:

  • Be honest with yourself and me;
  • Accept feedback;
  • Take personal responsibility for the changes you want to create;
  • Bring an open mind;
  • Be prepared to challenge yourself;
  • Be open to change in your life;and
  • Totally go for your goals!

Benefits of Life Coaching and NLP

One of the primary benefits of Life Coaching and NLP is that you get to set goals and take action to get what you want.  The sessions give you the opportunity to take responsibility for your life situation enabling you to get what you want from life.

Life Coaching and NLP allows you to:

  • Re-focus on what is important to you;
  • Use the tools, techniques and support structures provided to empower your life;
  • Use the tools to move your life in the direction that you want;
  • Take control of your life and take action;
  • Create a more balanced life; and
  • Increase your self awareness and self responsibility.

What is the difference between Life Coaching and Therapy / Counselling?

A life coach is not a therapist or counsellor.  Life coaching is about the present and moving into the future.  Therapy and Counselling is generally about focusing on the past.  Life coaching does not look at the past except in the context where past patterns are identified which can help the client move forward or change a current behaviour pattern.

Life coaching focuses on facts, actions and measurable outcomes.  In counselling and therapy, an area of the client’s life can be explored over a period of time.  However, in coaching once a challenging behaviour has been identified, the client is encouraged to start thinking of a solution and taking action to improve the issue.

Life coaches do not give advice, as it is important to encourage and challenge the client to find their own solutions and actions to begin taking control of their own lives. While the coach is there to give honest feedback to the client and challenge the client's self-limiting beliefs, the client should be encouraged to come up with their own solutions, which in the end is a much more empowering experience.
